What elements are worth upgrading to add value to my investment?

The heart and soul of your home is right here in the kitchen. If you want to make the investment of your brand new kitchen worthwhile, consider a few of these options in order to make an impression.

Bench tops

Nothing says added luxury like a stone bench top. There are plenty of companies to turn to for engineered stone surfaces that offer durability, longevity and low maintenance. For a glamorous, high-end look choose a marbled pattern such as calacatta or statuario.

Splash back

Tiles are still a great option here due to the fact they can really make a statement. I consider the splash back to be the 'wall art' of the kitchen. Be as bold as you dare here. There are endless tile patterns, colours, finishes and grout options to choose from to really set the scene. Some other designer options include stone, glass, windows, copper, pressed metal, the list goes on. Get creative here with your blank canvas.

Other than your necessary natural and ambient lighting, go a step further to turn this into the kitchen of your dreams. Use a mix of ambient, task and accent or decorative lighting. When the evening meal is done, it's time to change the mood with some feature, dimmable pendant lights or perhaps some decorative shelves would look attractive with LED strip lights. Aim to change the feel of the environment allowing dinner guests to kick back and enjoy that smooth red you've been saving for a special evening!

Quality hardware and tapware

The aim here is to make your investment last a little longer. Choose quality tapware with brass fittings. You can find products compared and rated on Canstar Blue. An upgrade of door hinges, drawer runners and soft close mechanisms is a definite must if you want to enjoy using your kitchen. Quality equals durability and longevity, a very worthwhile investment.

Appliances with all the bells and whistles are always going to add value to your kitchen. If this is a property you are looking to sell sometime soon, the upgrade will not go unnoticed.

And last but not least ...

Replace cupboards with drawers

Yes, this costs a little extra but you will make your kitchen ten times more user friendly and functional if you do this where possible. Some drawer runners have a fairly high load capacity, perfect for heavy pots and pans. The best part is being able to see everything stored inside at a glance. You will never go back!!

I hope these tips help you on your way to taking your kitchen to the next level.
